Built in bookshelf all in and trimmed out! Boy did that take a lot of time to paint!
And the stair railing is now all complete - that took a bit more effort than I expected, but turned out pretty good in the end. It matches about perfectly with the
But the stairs are still blue! We need some carpet...
Well, the basement is now finished! It only took 1 year (less three weeks) to go from start to finish. The carpet was installed in early November. Only items that still remain are getting the entertainment system completed (put the TV on the wall.)

Coming down the home stretch...
It has been a while, but here is an update on the Breneman Basement Makeover...
The painting of the walls is done - 2 coats of primer and 2 of paint. All the lights are installed in the ceiling, the speakers are in, and all final electrical is done. The trim is up and so is the baseboard. We are in the process of sanding and painting the baseboard and trim. The stair railing is in progress but is waiting for a few parts to be purchased. Still have a bookcase to build, doors to paint, and then carpet to install - but getting closer.

And we let the kids do their own painting in their room under the stairs! It turned out really well! |

Furring Strips Up and a start at electrical
I got the furring strips up over the past week. All looked good until I put a level up vertically on the wall. I couldn't figure out why, until I realized I had sealed behind the rigid foam insulation with expanding spray foam. The spray foam pushed out the top of the wall, so I had to do a little foam shaving to keep the top furring strip in line with the rest of the wall.
The electrical boxes are now all nailed in, and 4 of the 10 recessed light cans are installed.

Framing Almost Finished
In progress on finishing the Breneman basement. With the help of my brother, we got a lot of framing done the week before New Year's. Now little by little more progress is being made. Opened up the stairway yesterday and put up a temporary railing. Final step left to do in framing - put furring strips up on final wall. Then on to mechanicals (electrical, HVAC).
Oh, and the kids loved to help too!
